Graduation
Indications for the submission of the thesis
By 30 September of the last year of the programme, PhD students are required to submit an application to the Doctoral Office for participation in the final examination (Annex 1), accompanied by a report on the activities carried out during the training course (Annex 2).
On the same date, the final text of the doctoral thesis (in PDF format) must be sent to the Course Coordinator, together with the report on the activities carried out.
Thesis evaluation procedure
By 31 October, the Academic Board sends the thesis, for evaluation, to at least two referees from outside the University, figures of proven qualification, including at least one or one member of the university teaching staff.
The evaluation of referees consists of the drafting of a written analytical judgment and they may propose admission to public discussion or a postponement of up to six months, if significant corrections or additions are required.
At the end of the postponement period, the thesis is still admitted to public discussion and is accompanied by a new written opinion, which the referees must express within 15 days on the basis of the changes made.
Extension of thesis submission
For proven reasons that do not allow the submission of the doctoral thesis on time, doctoral students may request an extension of up to a maximum of 12 months from the Academic Board, without further financial burdens.
The request must be sent by email to the Doctoral Office by 30 September of the last year of the programme using the appropriate form, specifying the reasons for the request.

An extension of the doctoral programme, up to a maximum of 12 months, may be requested by the Academic Board from the University Bodies if justified scientific needs emerge that were not foreseeable at the beginning of the doctoral student's research. The request must be submitted within a reasonable timeframe, in order to ensure the corresponding extension of the duration of the scholarship
Please note that the periods of extensions and suspensions cannot exceed a total of 18 months, except in specific cases provided for by current legislation.
