Learning objectives and program

The aim of the PhD programme is to prepare graduates for advanced research in the human sciences, promoting knowledge, critical skills and methodological skills.

The training activity of the Doctorate will be framed and articulated with the training activity of the Doctoral School in Education Sciences to which the Doctorate adheres. In particular, it will be aimed around three thematic nuclei:

  • consolidation and integration of disciplinary knowledge related to the topic of the Doctorate;
  • mastery of methodological skills aimed at research related to the object of study chosen by the PhD student;
  • research activity aimed at the final thesis thesis.

Specifically, the educational objectives of each research track are divided as follows:
 

PERSON, DEVELOPMENT, LEARNING. EPISTEMOLOGICAL, THEORETICAL AND APPLICATIVE PERSPECTIVES

The development of the person is analyzed with reference to the main theoretical paradigms in the field of philosophy, psychology  and neuroscience. The PhD student will be accompanied in the deepening of the most significant approaches and methodologies of investigation in the following sectors.

  • Ontological and metaphysical questions
  • Person and Bioethics
  • Questions of Political Philosophy
  • basic cognitive skills;
  • emotions and affections;
  • meaningful relationships in educational contexts;
  • mentalization in the life cycle in typical and atypical situations;
  • neural circuits that support higher functions;
  • abnormalities of neural circuits in mental illness.

The main objective of this course is to support the PhD student in the critical integration of the aforementioned perspectives of investigation and in deepening from an epistemological and empirical point of view the applicative repercussions for the issues of development and learning of the person in the life cycle.

PEDAGOGY (EDUCATION)

This track aims to prepare for scientific research in the fields of pedagogical disciplines. The preparation makes use of diversified and assisted itineraries of personal investigation and moments of lesson, in-depth seminars and study relating to the following fields of investigation:

  • theoretical-institutional sector;
  • historical sector;
  • methodological-didactic sector;
  • methodological-experimental sector;
  • Research sector on the topic of Educational Policies
  • research sector in the field of Higher Education

HISTORY AND LITERATURE OF THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY AGE

The training and research programme covers the following areas: sources and methods of research on the modern and contemporary age; documentation and archival studies; political and institutional history; History of Political Thought; history of culture; history of the language of modern and contemporary politics; history of science; religious history; history of the European churches; social history; civilizations and cultures of the Mediterranean area; Western and Eastern Europe; history of historiography; contemporary historiography; history of literary and artistic genres; literary historiography; theory of literature; language, writing, literature; the poetics; criticism: concepts, theories and methods; criticism as a literary genre; critical writings; the criticism of the poets; criticism and didactics of literature; sociology of literature; the social influence of literature; teaching-learning processes in the field of literary history in different theoretical perspectives.
